January 28th, 2009 by mapleshade

Maple Shade Dental Group located in  Peoria, IL has welcomed preschools, grade schools, and middle schools to their office for fun educational tours for over 20 years.  The Tooth Fairy at Maple Shade has become a popular educator for schools and youth organizations in the Peoria, IL area, and will be educating over 250 children in the month of February.

Maple Shade Dental Group provides a fun atmosphere for kids when coming to the dentist.  Our waterfalls, tropical fish aquarium, safari jeep rides, and enthusiastic staff make your child’s visit to the dentist an adventure.  Maple Shade wants kids to enjoy their visit so they are excited about coming back.  Learning good dental habits now can establish healthy teeth for a lifetime.  Maple Shade has two locations one in North Peoria and the other in East Peoria, IL.  Please contact us at 309-243-7702 to schedule a tooth fairy visit or for more information.

Did you know? Gum disease can cause increased risks for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke?

November 26th, 2008 by mapleshade

Have you ever experienced bad breath, red, swollen, or bleeding gums?   Most people do not realize that these symptoms could be related to a much more serious problem.  These symptoms along with many others are signs of gum disease also known as periodontal disease.  Periodontal disease is the number one reason why people loose their teeth.  While this disease is running its course it actually lowers the level of bone between your teeth.  This causes the teeth to get loose and fall out over time.  Almost 75% of Americans suffer from this disease and do not know it.  In the early stages gum disease can be reversible.  However, if you ignore these warning signs you could be in danger of many different health risks.  The relationship between dangerous oral bacteria associated with periodontal disease and life-threatening diseases such as oral cancer, heart disease, diabetes, respiratory ailments, and premature births in babies make the treatment of this disease crucial. At Maple Shade Dental Group located in Peoria, Illinois the health of your teeth and gums is our number one concern.  We continually evaluate every aspect of your oral health.  Regular cleanings for most patients are scheduled every 6 months to keep patients from developing large amounts of plaque and tartar caused by bacteria in the mouth.  If allowed to fester this plague and tartar traps bacteria below the gum line causing infection to form, resulting in tender gums and inflammation.  This in turn causes the gums to pull away from the teeth making it easier for more bacteria to get trapped below the gum line.  If these conditions have caused you to form periodontal disease it is imperative that you receive treatment to keep the conditions from getting any worse.  At Maple Shade in Peoria, IL a specially trained doctor can provide you with treatment for your conditions.  Our hygienist checks for problem areas around each tooth at least once a year to evaluate the health of your gums.  If you have periodontal disease the hygienist will perform a periodontal cleaning to smooth the tooth surface and remove all the bacteria in the surrounding area. We also provide Arestin, which is an antibiotic therapy that helps treat the pockets around the gums that have not responded well to treatment.  Arestin kills the bacteria, which smoothes the tooth surface, allowing your gums to tighten around the teeth again.  Proper brushing and flossing techniques along with regularly scheduled cleanings can prevent you from suffering from periodontal disease in the future.  An electronic toothbrush called the Rotadent is recommended for patients with periodontal disease.  It is designed to help the you clean the area just below the gum line that is difficult to clean with a standard toothbrush.  If you or someone you know may have periodontal disease please call today to schedule an appointment.  Maple Shade is located in North Peoria and East Peoria, Illinois.

Straighten your teeth invisibly with Invisalign

November 19th, 2008 by mapleshade

Invisalign treatment as conducted by the Maple Shade Dental Group located in Peoria Illinois consists of a series of clear aligners that straighten your teeth over the course of a few months to a year.  The aligners are made of an inconspicuous clear plastic.  In this way you can experience the effects of traditional braces without anyone realizing you are wearing them.  Another great feature of Invisalign is that the aligners can be removed while you’re eating so you can clean them effectively unlike many conventional options for orthodontics.  Invisalign aligners are custom fit for your mouth.  During your first complimentary visit, a dental professional will take impressions and pictures of your teeth to find out if you are a good candidate for Invisalign. If the doctor finds that you are a good candidate we will then send the pictures and impressions to Invisalign who will make a digital model of the your mouth.  You can look over the digital model at either one of our convenient locations in North Peoria, or East Peoria, Illinois.  The digital model shows you exactly how your teeth will move over the course of the next few months.  You can also see a final product of what your teeth will look like after the Invisalign procedure. If you do decide to go through with Invisalign the doctor will accept the treatment online and your new aligners will arrive at Maple Shade shortly after they are ordered.  Invisalign is designed so that every two weeks you will switch to a new aligner.  Depending on your progress you may receive between two and three Invisalign aligners per visit.  Each aligner is designed so that it moves your teeth closer to the ending position.  The doctor will have you come back as needed to check your tooth movement progress and make sure the aligners are working correctly.  The Invisalign aligners are to be worn as much as possible.  The more you wear Invisalign aligners the faster your teeth will move.  Once the Invisalign treatment is finished you will be given a retainer to be worn at night so your teeth stay in position.  Invisalign is usually faster than conventional orthodontic treatment.  If you’re ready to transform your smile with minimum effort and beautiful results then Invisalign is for you.  Now you can take charge of changing your smile without interfering with your everyday life. Call Maple Shade Dental Group, in Peoria, IL to schedule a complimentary consultation.

A Beautiful Bright Smile with ZOOM 2 Teeth Whitening

November 19th, 2008 by mapleshade

Maple Shade Dental Group located in Peoria, IL offers advanced laser whitening treatment through use of the new Zoom 2 whitening system.  This chair side whitening system was developed by Discus Dental and is the second generation model of the original Zoom chair side whitening system.  Like the original, this product uses a specially designed lamp to activate a specially designed bleaching gel to whiten teeth.  Right here in Peoria, Illinois patients are offered the chair side whitening system used across the country.  The system was rated number one for both best in-office system and best whitening lamp.  The lamp is all-new and built for speed completing treatment in just three 15-minute sessions.  Zoom 2 raises the bar to a new level averaging eight shades of color change per procedure.  Some patients have even seen a color change as high as 12 shades lighter.  Patients should realize that yellow stained teeth usually show the greatest improvements.  Coffee, tobacco, tea, red wines, red sauces, etc. are all foods that stain our teeth.  The Zoom whitening treatment works to whiten deep stains in the enamel of the tooth.  Most over-the-counter bleaching kits only whiten the surface of the enamel causing them to have shorter lasting effects.  The light-activated Zoom gel works to penetrate deep into the pores of the enamel and whiten as much of the stain as possible.  Amorphous Calcium Phosphate1 (ACP) technology provides the superior whitening results.  Reduced contact time, ACP chemistry, combined with a new balancing agent ensure the lowest possible discomfort and sensitivity for new patients.  Many patients are sensitivity free and have little to no sensitivity at all.  Zoom 2 patients now experience 67% less significant sensitivity to the new laser whitening procedures when compared with the original Zoom system.   The comfort and sensitivity was enhanced in multiple ways.  The head of the light was situated so that it is closer and directly in front of the patients teeth.  The design change for ZOOM whitening allowed for using a lower wattage lamp that runs cooler.  It also heats up much quicker and emits less light onto the patients soft tissues.  This also enables the light to work more proficiently at whitening the tooth surface.  Maple Shade, in Peoria IL provides their patients with take-home whitening trays and bleach as well so that patients can continue to bleach their teeth even after their initial procedure.  Instructions are given to the patient on how to care for their newly whitened teeth as products which could stain the teeth should be avoided for at least 48 hours after the procedure.  This gives time for the microscopic pores of the enamel to seal up.  Patients at Maple Shade in Peoria, IL are also given take-home whitening gel so that they can enjoy the long lasting effects of the whitening procedure.  The Zoom 2 whitening procedure can be done at either of our convenient locations in N. Peoria and East Peoria which are both located within the Central, IL area.

Experience Freedom from headaches, neck pain, and jaw popping. You may have TMD.

November 13th, 2008 by mapleshade

If you’re experiencing frequent headaches, back and neck pain, dull aching facial pain, or popping in your jaw, you’re not alone.  Thousands of American’s suffer from these symptoms and often believe stress or a busy lifestyle is to blame.  Many don’t realize that these symptoms are often related to their jaw muscles and their jaw joint known as the tempormandibular joint or TMJ.  Your bite can be a factor in many types of pain or functional problems because of the interrelationship of the overall musculoskeletal system.  Dr. Rod Willey is a neuromuscular dentist and is trained to recognize and treat tempormandibular joint disorder or TMD. Dr. Rod Willey has attended numerous courses from the Las Vegas Institute, the premier location continued education in neuromuscular dentistry.  In September, Dr Willey and three staff members received special training on the K-7 evaluation system, one of the latest technologies available for helping neuromuscular dentists detect TMD. Dr. Rod Willey’s goal as a neuromuscular dentist is to find the best position of the jaw based on its relationship with the teeth and surrounding muscles. The K-7 allows the Dr. Willey to monitor 8 different muscles, track the movement of the jaw muscles, and use vibration sensors to monitor any abnormal sounds or clicking.  Finding the place where your jaw muscles are most relaxed, Dr. Rod Willey can then proceed with the necessary treatment.   After beginning treatment the majority of patients find relief within the first few weeks and some have reported immediate relief from their symptoms.  Maple Shade Dental Group, in Peoria, IL is the only dental group in Illinois, south of Chicago to offer the K-7 evaluation system.

Relief From TMD Transformed My Life!

August 28th, 2008 by mapleshade

TMJ/TMD Story

After Brenda and her husband raised their 2 children, they were ready to fulfill their dreams of traveling. But those dreams had to be altered due to headaches and neck aches that Brenda was experiencing. She complained to her husband about ear aches and jaw popping. He had noticed that she would grind her teeth at night. They were both concerned, but didn’t really know where to turn for answers.

One day Brenda shared her symptoms with Dr. Willey, in Peoria, IL, he immediately called for an on-site dental CAT-scan, and a TMD evaluation, along with other tests. Little did Brenda know that Dr. Willey had been awarded recognition in the field of neuromuscular occlusion, and he finds great rewards in helping people heal from TMD pain. He explained to her the relationship between her bite and the pain she was in and how it all related to her overall musculoskeletal system. Brenda began treatment, and to her amazement, pain began subsiding within two weeks. She was faithful in keeping her appointments as Dr. Willey adjusted her bite and whoa did it pay off! Her head and neck aches are gone. The tenderness in her ear and jaw popping has subsided. She is enjoying some of the things she once did.

Today Brenda is free from the persistent ear aches, loose teeth, stuffy sinuses, headaches and neck pain. She has traveled down the recovery road and now she is ready to travel the world.
